There we were, face 2 face, eyeball 2 eyeball, smile 2 smile...and we didn't even realize that one day we would be 1!! It all began in the hallway of high school when an old friend re-introduced us to one another. We both knew there was an unusual chemistry, but who knows what that means at 16 years old? We didn't. 1 year passed and it turns out that we both were stuck in summer school! We won't say the reason why Shane was in summer school, but I had to take an extra Math before my senior year in order to be caught up. Well, not only were we in summer school together...but we had the SAME class!! The googly eyes began and we went on our first date on June 15, 2002.
Little did I know what I was getting into on that first date: Shane picked me up in his 1986 Chevy Blazer, which some named a "Bumblebee in a can." Everyone knew when Shane was in our subdivision!! As we drove down the road, he popped in a cd (yes, he did have a cd player installed) and began to sing to "the top of his lungs." Me, being the extremely shy girl everyone knew me as, began to have second thoughts: Who jams on their first date??--Shane Tarpley does!! The night went on as Shane brought me to his house to meet his adorable family. We could potentially say that I fell in love with his family first!! However, I soon began to learn his heart and that his one true motive was unlike any person I had ever met: He was devoted to me! To say the least, we went from googly eyes 2 marriage in a short 3 years!
Of course, there were those people who discouraged marriage at only 20 years old. Now that I have children of my own, I could see myself as one of those people. However, Shane and I had a beautiful wedding, romantic honeymoon, and a rich love that we believed would be forever unbroken...and still believe it will be forever unbroken. Our marriage was PERFECT for 2 months! Yes, 2 months! On August 19, we went to the doctor to hear our baby girl's heartbeat for the very first time. Wow how our plans had changed! We were going to be a Physical Therapist (Shane) and a Dietician (me), have a huge house, nicer vehicles than we currently had, and live a beautiful life together in Atlanta. It all changed in a matter of a minute! I never started my first day at Georgia State University, where I was transferring to from the University of West Georiga, and Shane knew it was completely over for him, because he needed to be able to support a family.
Within two weeks, we bought our first home in Temple, GA, which was a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath town home. Although we thought our world had crashed, we quickly began to realize that God was not going to leave us forsaken. This child was not an accident, a hindrance to our plans, or an obstacle that would break us. God provided a way for us to afford this cozy town home, make it through this unexpected pregnancy without any complications, and overcome the stress of medical bills. We were first time parents who finally felt like WE COULD DO THIS!! Then...we brought her home!!!
